水彩画とアクリル画を選んだ理由
私は大学時代、油彩を学んでいました。
でもアーティストとして新たに出発する今、私は水彩画とアクリル画を選ぶことにしました。
その理由は、私の今のライフスタイルにぴったりだったからです。
学生の頃は、大きな倉庫のようなアトリエで、汚れも気にせず自由に描いていました。
筆洗をひっくり返しても、床に絵の具がついても、それが当たり前の環境。
でも、今は自宅の一角で制作しています。
そうなると、あの頃と同じようにはいきません。
そこで選んだのがアクリル画。
すぐに乾き、作業が進めやすい。そして、塗り重ねや厚塗りもできる。
自宅制作において、これ以上ないほど相性のいい画材でした。
学生時代は「アクリルガッシュ」しか知らなかったのですが、今のアクリル絵の具はずいぶん進化しています。
透明色の美しさや、重ねることで生まれる深みは、新しい発見であり、楽しさそのものです。
そしてもうひとつ、私の心を強く惹きつけたのが水彩画の世界でした。
さまざまなアーティストの作品に触れるうちに、
”水彩にしかない、にじみやぼかしの偶然の美しさ”に感動し、
「こんな風に花や風景、人物を描いてみたい」と思うようになったのです。
ただ、水彩は私にとってまったくの未知の世界。
何を揃えたらいいかも分からず、本を読んだりネットで調べながら、
一つ一つ画材を集めていました。
アクリルも、水彩も。
どちらもまだまだ手探りでのスタートですが、
これから続くアーティストとしての旅の一歩目を、私はようやく踏み出したところです。
Why I Chose Watercolor and Acrylic – The Beginning of My Artistic Journey
I studied oil painting during my university years.
But as I take my first steps as an artist, I’ve chosen to work with watercolor and acrylic.
The biggest reason?
Because these mediums fit perfectly with my current lifestyle.
Back in school, I painted in a huge studio—
a warehouse-like space where spilling brush water or splattering paint didn’t matter at all.
But now, I create in a corner of my home. Things are different.
That’s why I naturally gravitated toward acrylics—
they dry quickly, are easy to handle, and can be layered or textured like oil paint.
In my student days, I only knew about acrylic gouache.
But today’s acrylic paints have evolved—they offer transparent colors and depth through layering, which opened up a new world of possibilities for me.
Then, as I explored different artworks online and in books,
I found myself falling in love with the freshness and fluidity of watercolor.
The delicate bleeds and soft blends,
the beautiful “accidents” created by water—
they spoke to something deep in my heart.
I thought,
“I want to paint flowers, landscapes, and people like that.”
But watercolor was completely new to me.
I didn’t even know what tools to buy at first!
So I spent time researching and gathering materials—
little by little, step by step.
Whether it’s watercolor or acrylic,
my journey as an artist has only just begun.
And I’m excited to see where it takes me.
