【作品紹介】おもちゃの誘惑
猫の全集中の姿を描く
妹の飼い猫マリオくんは、保護猫として迎えられ、幼いころからやんちゃ坊主。
おもちゃを目の前にすると、野生のスイッチが入ったように一気に集中モードになります。
この作品のテーマは、「獲物を狙う猫の全集中のまなざし」。
息をひそめ、今にも飛びかかりそうな緊張感。
その空気を壊さないよう、見る側まで静かになってしまうような、そんな一瞬を描きました。
🎨 こだわりポイント
室内という設定のもと、
- 窓から差し込む光と家具の影
- じゅうたんの床の質感
- 前足の筋肉に入る力の表現
など、猫の構造的な美しさと緊張感が伝わるよう細部にこだわりました。
狙っているおもちゃはあえて描かず、背後にさりげなくボールを配置。
見る人が「今、何を狙っているのだろう？」と想像できる構成にしています。
✍️ 制作をとおして学んだこと
マリオくんは黒と白の猫ですが、黒の絵の具は使わず、紫がかった色味で表現しました。
この工夫により、自然な陰影と深みを出すことができました。
「黒絵の具を使わずに黒を作る」水彩の混色技法は、今後さらに研究していきたいポイントです。
また、動物の毛並みの表現にもまだまだ課題が残っています。
水彩ならではの透明感ややわらかさを活かしながら、よりリアルに描けるよう、これからも挑戦を重ねていきたいと思います！

【Artwork Introduction】The Temptation of a Toy
A Portrait of a Cat in Full Hunting Focus
Mario, my sister’s cat, is a rescue with a mischievous spirit that’s been part of him since kittenhood.
When a toy appears, his inner wildness awakens—his focus sharpens, and he enters full hunting mode.
This watercolor piece captures that intense moment:
the laser-sharp gaze of a cat zeroing in on its prey.
There’s an energy in the air that makes you instinctively hold your breath, not wanting to interrupt.
🎨 Artistic Focus
Set indoors, this piece pays close attention to:
- The contrast of sunlight filtering through a window vs. shadows from furniture
- The texture of a soft carpeted floor
- The slight tension in his front legs and the angle of his face
I wanted to showcase the beauty of a cat’s skeletal structure while capturing the suspense of “he might pounce any second.”
The toy he’s stalking? I left it out intentionally.
Instead, a ball sits behind him—offering just enough hint to suggest he’s in the middle of a play session.
The rest is up to the viewer’s imagination.
✍️ Lessons from This Work
Mario is black and white, but I chose not to use black paint.
Instead, I mixed purples and deep hues to create a layered, expressive tone.
This helped add subtle shadows and a unique depth to his coat.
Mixing “black without black” in watercolor is a fascinating challenge, and I’d love to continue experimenting with this technique.
I also found fur texture to be a continuing challenge—especially with watercolor’s transparency.
That’s something I’ll keep working on to refine and improve in future pieces.にも課題が残ります。
