【作品紹介】ミヌエットの男の子
見返り美人な猫、いたずらのあとでしれっと一枚
飼い猫のモカは、ミヌエットの男の子で、マンチカンとペルシャの血を引いています。
その毛並みはまるでミルクティーのようで、ふわふわ。性格はとってもマイペース。
この作品では、そんなモカの“見返り美人”な瞬間、
ふと後ろを振り返る優美な姿を描きました。
🎨 こだわりポイント
やさしく振り返る姿とは裏腹に、
実は「ちょっと前までいたずらしてた」様子も感じてほしくて、
画面には、スプラッシュや吹き流し技法を用いて、いたずらっ子感を表現しています。
また、水彩画ならではの「白を塗らずに残す」テクニックを意識し、
猫のシルエットをネガティブペインティング（背景を塗ることで形を浮かび上がらせる技法）で表現。
画面はあえて塗りつぶさず、余白の美しさも活かしています。
✍️ 制作をとおして学んだこと
この作品では、呉竹の「顔彩耽美（がんさいたんび）」という画材を使用。
絵手紙好きの母から贈られたこの顔彩は、発色が非常に良く、水彩絵の具のように扱えるのが魅力です。
水で溶いて使うと、透明水彩よりも色が濃くはっきり乗るので、
“和の色”の深みを作品に加えることができ、今回の猫にもぴったりでした。
今後は、風景画などにも使ってみたい画材です！

【Artwork Introduction】Minuet Boy
A Glance Over the Shoulder—After a Little Mischief
Moka, our beloved cat, is a male Minuet—a mix between Munchkin and Persian.
His fur is soft and fluffy, like milk tea, and his personality is calm and laid-back.
In this piece, I wanted to capture Moka in a classic “over-the-shoulder” pose—
elegant and composed, as if nothing had just happened… but maybe something did.
🎨 Artistic Highlights
Though his expression is gentle and graceful,
I wanted to hint at the mischief he might have caused just moments earlier.
To do this, I used splash and drip techniques to add playful chaos to the composition.
The cat’s silhouette is created using negative painting,
where the background is painted to let the subject emerge through untouched white space.
I also left generous empty space around the subject,
letting the composition breathe and highlighting the lightness of watercolor.
✍️ What I Learned Through This Work
For this piece, I used a set of traditional Japanese pigments:
“Gansai Tambi” by Kuretake—gifted to me by my mother who enjoys postcard painting.
These paints can be used like watercolors,
but they offer stronger colors and a richer depth, especially well-suited for earthy or traditional themes.
I found that their vivid hues and deep tones matched perfectly with the soft yet dramatic feel of this painting.
I’d love to experiment with them more in landscape works as well.
