【作品紹介】初景滝～伊豆の河津七滝
鮮やかな緑と水しぶき、旅の記憶を描いた風景画
この作品は、伊豆・河津の名勝「河津七滝（かわづななだる）」のひとつ、初景滝（しょけいだる）を描いたものです。
実際に旅先で訪れ、現地でスケッチをしてからアトリエで仕上げた、思い出の詰まった一枚です。
「伊豆の踊子と私」のブロンズ像が並ぶ風景の背景に、
勢いよく落ちる滝と、夏の鮮やかな緑が印象的でした。
🎨 こだわりポイント
初景滝は、高さこそ約10mと控えめですが、水量が豊富で、落ちる音や白いしぶきがとてもダイナミックです。
この作品では、水彩画ならではの透明感や清流の爽やかさを活かして、
マスキングでしぶきを白く残し、滝壺には流し込みの技法を用いて、水の勢いと量感を表現しました。
また、手前に立つブロンズ像のふたりは、
川端康成の小説『伊豆の踊子』に登場する少年と踊子。
少年が恋心を抑えている感情を、
「左手で右手を押さえる」というポーズから丁寧に読み取り、寄り添うように描いています。
✍️ 制作をとおして学んだこと
「滝と像」という2つの異なる要素を1枚の中でどうバランスよく構成するかが、今回の大きなテーマでした。
ブロンズ像は実際より少し前に配置し、構図として安定するように調整。
また、人物ではなく「像」として描くために、質感表現にもこだわり、硬さや重みが出るよう色彩を調整しました。
細部の描きこみや、より繊細な表現にも、今後取り組んでいきたいと感じました。

【Artwork Introduction】Shokei Waterfall – One of the Seven Waterfalls of Kawazu, Izu
A Lush Green Waterfall and a Glimpse of Love, Preserved in Paint
This watercolor painting depicts Shokei Waterfall, one of the famous “Seven Waterfalls of Kawazu” in Izu, Japan.
I created this piece after visiting the site on a trip—drawing sketches on location and painting it later in my studio.
In the background stands the powerful waterfall, while in the foreground, you see the bronze statues from “The Dancing Girl of Izu”—a scene rich with summer greenery and emotion.
🎨 Artistic Highlights
Although only about 10 meters tall, Shokei Waterfall is known for its abundant water flow,
loud crashing sound, and striking white spray.
To portray this, I used masking fluid to preserve the whiteness of the splash
and pouring techniques to represent the volume and movement of the water.
In the foreground are two bronze figures—
a young student and the dancing girl from Kawabata Yasunari’s classic novel.
The boy’s feelings of restrained affection are expressed through his posture—
his left hand holding back his right—
a subtle gesture I aimed to capture with care.
✍️ Lessons from This Work
One of the challenges was balancing two subjects in one painting:
a dynamic waterfall and still bronze statues.
To harmonize them, I slightly repositioned the statue closer in the composition.
I also focused on capturing the hard, metallic texture of the statues through carefully selected colors.
In the future, I’d like to further refine the details and delicate expressions in both natural and sculptural subjects.
